It is a bad idea that talking on a phone while driving. Driving use a large amount of brain power. People have to do huge amounts of thing during driving, predict the action of other drivers and coordinate precise movements of our hands and feet. Even using a hands-free device, talking on the phone makes people careless. When people get used to drive, the level of focus required changes. Scientist call this phenomenon “automaticity”. It let people do one thing during focusing on some other thing. But then, why chat on the cell phone while driving is bad? To confirm it, authors brought a professional pianist for experiment. Because pianist and driver, both can do a complicated work that has become automatic while having a simple conversation. While pianist was playing, they asked him to multitask. Talking about his childhood was not difficult for him. Reading a magazine was little bit difficult that he stumbled on some words in the article. Do a math problem while playing a new music for him was the most difficult. He hit a few wrong notes on the keyboard and it is like driver hit something while multitasking. In fact, driver inattention is involved in about 80 percent of crashes, according to a 2006 study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 100-Car Naturalistic Driving Study found the most common distraction for drivers was use of cell phones — with the number of crashes attributable to dialing nearly identical to the number associated with talking or listening.
